What is rose gold?

Ever wondered what it is that makes rose gold "rose"? Pure gold (24ct) is very soft, so tends not to be used in jewellery. We therefore mix metal alloys with pure gold to make it more durable.
The three most popular colours are yellow, white and rose/red. The pink colour of rose gold comes from the gold being alloyed with copper.

It was commonly worn in 19th century Russia and is again becoming more popular in the 21st century thanks to its beautiful, soft, rosy hue.
